You don’t need to become a concert pianist to become a better music producer. You need to understand the keyboard well enough to find notes, build chords, play basic progressions, create simple melodies, and confidently use a piano or MIDI keyboard in your productions.
Piano for Music Producers is a 10-week beginner-friendly course designed specifically for aspiring music producers, beatmakers, songwriters, and artists who want to develop practical piano skills they can use in their music.
Learn Piano From a Music Producer’s Perspective
This is not a traditional piano lesson program. The goal is to give you the practical piano and keyboard skills that can immediately help you with music production.
You’ll learn the fundamentals of the keyboard, basic music theory, scales, chords, chord progressions, inversions, rhythm, and simple playing techniques.
By the end of the course, you’ll be more comfortable sitting at a keyboard and using it as a creative tool when producing music.

10-Week Course Curriculum
Week 1 — Getting to Know the Keyboard
Learn the basic layout of the piano keyboard, including white and black keys, note names, octaves, proper hand position, and basic finger numbers. Students will begin playing simple five-finger patterns and exercises.
Week 2 — Rhythm & Basic Piano Technique
Develop basic coordination and timing at the keyboard. Learn whole notes, half notes, quarter notes, and eighth notes while practicing simple right- and left-hand exercises with a metronome.
Week 3 — Major Scales
Learn how major scales are constructed using whole and half steps. Students will practice several common major scales while developing proper fingering and coordination.
Week 4 — Major & Minor Chords
Learn how to build and play major and minor triads. Students will practice finding chords on the keyboard and begin understanding how chords relate to scales and keys.
Week 5 — Chord Progressions
Learn how chords work together within a key. Students will practice common chord progressions used in Pop, R&B, Hip-Hop, Gospel, and other contemporary styles.
Week 6 — Chord Inversions
Learn how to play different versions of the same chord using inversions. Students will practice moving smoothly between chords without having to move their hands across the entire keyboard.
Week 7 — Playing with Both Hands
Develop basic left- and right-hand coordination. Learn simple techniques for playing chords with one hand while adding bass notes, melodies, or other basic patterns with the other.
Week 8 — Piano Patterns & Accompaniment
Learn simple piano accompaniment patterns that can make basic chords sound more musical. Students will practice broken chords, rhythmic chord patterns, and other techniques commonly heard in contemporary music.
Week 9 — Playing Simple Songs & Progressions
Apply the skills developed throughout the course to recognizable chord progressions and simple songs. Students will practice changing chords smoothly, maintaining rhythm, and playing with greater confidence.
Week 10 — Piano Review & Practice
Review the fundamentals covered throughout the course and practice playing basic scales, chords, progressions, melodies, and simple songs. Students will leave with exercises and techniques they can continue practicing after the course.
